Happy Goats offers a model-based decision support toolkit for farmers, veterinarians and cooperatives to optimize the profitability of their sheep and goat farms under management. The app evaluates the current management situation and provides critical decision support, by simulating future management scenarios and their effects on profitability.

Happy Goats aspires to catalyse the digital transformation of the small ruminants sector. Combining an easy-to-use web decision support (DSS) app with flexible consulting, training and support packages, it offers critical and actionable advice for the financial viability of supported farms. Our model is implemented on solid scientific research which has shown that, for the average goat & sheep farm, fewer animals can cost less, be better for the land, reduce labor and even improve profitability significantly. This is achieved by tackling the problem of over-reliance of breeders on government subsidies and focusing on diversifying and optimizing production.
Happy Goats was born from a close collaboration between the team of the Laboratory of Animal Husbandry of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and the web app experts at Integrated ITDC. The team, joining forces, developed and supported the original idea and prototyping of the Happy Goats model until now, with support from EU funding. (SmartAgriFood2 Accelerator). The end-user trials were carried out in Greece and abroad by multiple partners and were completed between 2018 and 2019. We would like to extend our thanks to the teams of researchers and experts who supported this project along its lifecycle.
